Hearing Loss and Age

As we age hearing loss becomes common - you are not alone.

Over 22% of the Australian population (3.55 million people) has significant hearing loss. This percentage increases to affect three in every four people over 70 years of age. It is the second most prevalent health condition affecting the population.

People often do not acknowledge their hearing loss because:

  • hearing gradually fades and you get used to it
  • it can be embarrassing to get information wrong and ask people to repeat themselves constantly
  • the cost and how hearing aids look can be a worry.

Wondering if you need to check your hearing?

Do you?

  • regularly ask people to repeat themselves
  • dislike loud sounds
  • listen to the TV loudly or regularly have people tell you the TV is too loud
  • speak too loudly or too softly
  • regularly tune out of conversations and presentations
  • find that you tend avoid mixing with groups and attending public places such as theatres, restaurants and family get-togethers
  • avoid meetings in the workplace
  • avoid the telephone in the workplace
  • have ringing in the ears
  • have trouble hearing warning signals and alerts

If you answer yes to most of these, contact us for a free hearing screening.

Hearing screenings take approximately 15 minutes and provide baseline information about the extent of your hearing. Full hearing assessments provided by an audiologist may be required depending on your needs.
