One of the biggest complaints we often get is from people who have been to an event such as an expo, conference, meeting, function, wedding etc where the increased background noise from people's hearing aids makes it all but impossible for them to hear conversations in a busy room.
There are a number of ways in which this can be resolved, but the most effective way is if the organisation, function centre, hotel or meeting management fits a hearing loop.
What is a Hearing Loop?
The Hearing Loop is a fine wire run around the room (usually under the carpet) and connected to the microphone system.
Fitted correctly the Hearing Loop reduces the influence of background for people with gearing aids. The hearing aids either require the ‘T' switch to be turned on or automatically built in as many hearing aids are nowadays.
Our marketing
Recently Hearing Link wrote to 55 Function and Convention Centres around Tasmania to let them know this technology is available. We will be following this up with phone calls to try and get them to adopt this technology. On ce fitted Hearing Loops are supplied with public signs to advise people attending their functions that a hearing loop has been fitted.
How can you help?
If you are having trouble hearing in busy rooms, please contact the centres management and ask them "Why haven't you got a hearing loop fitted?
Alternatives
If the centre or event management won't or haven't fitted a hearing loop you can still improve your ability to hear conversations in a busy room when you purchase a Bellman Audio Maxi Digital Communicator. These are available for between $279.00 and $337.00 depending on how you want to use it. For DVA gold or white card holders these are sometimes available free of charge. Please call us or drop in and we can arrange a quick demonstration. You will be amazed at the difference these can make to your hearing in busy places.
