Entitlements

Here are some entitlements for people who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Australian Government Hearing Services Program

A free hearing assessment and provision of hearing aids or an assistive listening device (ALD) are available under this program. For a small annual charge hearing aids can be serviced and batteries regularly supplied.

To be eligible for the Hearing Service Voucher to access this service, individuals must submit a photocopy of one of the following cards as proof of eligibility:

  • Pensioner Concession
  • Centrelink Sickness Allowance
  • DVA Pensioner Concession
  • White Health Repatriation Card
  • Gold Repatriation Card

Department of Veteran Affairs

Hearing Link Tasmania consultants are able to provide advice, testing and procurement of Assistive Listening Devices to Gold and White card holders.

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) can help you hear in circumstances when your hearing aids may not work well enough. For example they assist you to hear the television while the volume is a comfortable level for the other members of the household, and may allow you to hear conversations in crowded rooms more easily. Clients referred for this service are provided an individual appointment to trial the most appropriate ALD, are followed up for suitability and then arrangement is made for delivery of the device.

To be eligible you need a referral letter from your audiologist forwarded to Anne Blanch, Hearing Link Tasmania.

Other safety equipment such as door alarms can be considered for DVA gold and white card holders

Telstra Disability Equipment Program

This program has been designed to provide eligible customers with specialised equipment so they can access the standard telephone service.

Products include the big button/multi purpose phone, the cordless phone and the T100S standard rental phone or telephone accessories such as the extension ringer and the visual alert.

If your require a TTY or a cochlear implant telephone adapter you will need to complete and application form and have it signed by an audiologist, audiometrist, occupational therapist or medical practitioner
